A forthcoming Book on Animal Eyes will be using my multispectral works

Today about a forthcoming in 2026 book "The Ilustrated Book of Colors" which will be using some of my multispectral photographic works. Professor Yasushi Noguchi (Tokyo Polytechnic University, Faculty of Arts, Department of Interactive Media) will be using my images in the chapter "Animal Eyes" to illustrate how differently species see the world. He will be using the following pictures of a Gazania rigens. 

All shots were done at f8 in reflected ultraviolet photography using my "work horse" UV filter, the Baader-U filter, as well as my XBV filters for simulated bee and butterfly vision. Lens was a UV-Nikkor 105mm quartz fluorite lens. Light source was sunlight, background was the flower's own foliage.

Quite interesting colors get visible, hence why my images will be used in a publication about "Animal Eyes".

My work for France TV "C'est Toujours Pas Sorcier : Les superpouvoirs des abeilles"

France TV will be using my multispectral works in their programme  "C'est Toujours Pas Sorcier : Les superpouvoirs des abeilles".

Those multispectral images of mine where shot in my studio and outside with my "work horse" UV-Nikkor f4.5/105mm quartz fluorite lens using the Baader UV/IR Cut filter and my proprietary XBV filters for simulated bee vision. Light source in studio used was a Xenon flash modified for high UV output and sunlight outside.

All these flowers have very specific UV patterns; the outer part of their petals are UV reflective around 360nm, but their inner parts show a UV-dark area which gets nicely visible.

My Work for NOVA PBS: Your Brain - Perception Deception

NOVA PBS will use some of my multispectral images in a forthcoming TV show, airing on May 18, 2023 3am in the US: Working title "Your Brain: Perception Deception”!

The following multispectral images of mine they used where shot in my studio and outside with my "work horse" UV-Nikkor f4.5/105mm quartz fluorite lens using the Baader UV/IR Cut filter and my proprietary XBV filters for simulated bee vision. Light source used was a Xenon flash modified for high UV output and sunlight outside.

Treasury flower - Gazania rigens in reflected ultraviolet photography and simulated bee and butterfly vision XXXVII

Today in late Summer 2020 some outdoor shots of that long blooming white Gazania flower, the Treasury flower - Gazania rigens shot in reflected ultraviolet photography, simulated bee and butterfly vision. All shots were done at f8 in reflected ultraviolet photography using my "work horse" UV filter, the Baader-U filter, as well as my XBV filters for simulated bee and butterfly vision. Lens was a UV-Nikkor 105mm quartz fluorite lens. Light source was sunlight (shade).

This Gazania's outer petals strongly reflect UV around 370nm, whereas the inner petal parts are quite darker, hence forming UV nectar guides for UV seeing insects. There are also some highly UV reflecting marks inside around a dark UV center, all invisible to us humans, but clearly visible to bees and butterflies, and all this gets nicely visible here, also in simulated bee and butterfly vision.

All shots were done at f8 in reflected ultraviolet photography using my "work horse" UV filter, the Baader-U filter, as well as my XBV filters for simulated bee and butterfly vision. Lens was a UV-Nikkor 105mm quartz fluorite lens. Light source was sunlight (overcast).

Mirror lens for reflected UV photography pictorialism style

Today about using an older, rather overlooked 250mm mirror lens for reflected UV photography. The lens had been modified to accept a filter in its rear mount and also modified to M42 threads mount due to its orgiginal special mount for cine use. The lens focuses now from infinity to very close, a pleasure to use but due to is long focal length of 250mm still tricky to nail focus.

A whiteish flower, a Treasury flower - Gazania rigens was used for that. Light was sunlight (shade after rain) plus some 365nm Nichia UV LED light .

DOF at one (1) meter (3ft) is as thin as a razor blade when using this 250mm mirror lens and that doughnut shaped bokeh etc. makes it fun to use. Here now shots, quite reminds me of 19th century pictorialism....



whitebalanced it looks like that:


which shows its dreamlike/surreal/ethereal rendering of images and of course the famous doughnut bubbles mirror lenses produce...

But now also about a new way of showing the reflected UV in a different, new color scheme. All shots were done at f8 in reflected ultraviolet photography using my "work horse" UV filter, the Baader-U filter, as well as my XBV filters for simulated bee and butterfly vision. Lens was a UV-Nikkor 105mm quartz fluorite lens. Light source was sunlight.
