Biting Stonecrop - Sedum acre in reflected ultraviolet photography and simulated bee and butterfly vision

Today shots of a decorative plant, a creeping Biting Stonecrop - Sedum acre in reflected ultraviolet photography using my "work horse" UV filter, the Baader-U filter as well as my XBV filters for simulating bee and butterfly vision. Lens was a UV-Nikkor 105mm quartz fluorite lens. Light source was sunlight.

Quadriptych of human vision, UV, simulated butterfly and bee vision (left to right, top to bottom):

Sedum flowers have a distinct UV reflection, its petals have a quite UV dark center and the outside part is quite UV bright around 365nm and all this gets nicely visible, also in simulated bee and butterfly vision.

I have written about that flower before HERE

Stay tuned, more will follow on that fascinating subject...

Biting Stonecrop - Sedum acre in reflected ultraviolet photography, simulated butterfly and bee vision

Today shots of a decorative flower, a small creeping Biting Stonecrop - Sedum acre in reflected ultraviolet photography using my "work horse" UV filter, the Baader-U filter as well as my XBV filters for simulating bee and butterfly vision. Lens was a CERCO 94mm quartz fluorite lens. Light source was sun. All shots were done at about f5.6.

This Sedum flower has a specific UV pattern, UV bright petal tips reflecting around 365nm, and a UV dark center which all gets nicely visible.

[UV] Sedum flower: Baader-U vs Jupiter-U filter for reflected UV ultraviolet photography

Again more about that new Jupiter-U filter of mine. This time it is about a yellow Sedum spathulifolium flower, that I bought at a nursery (Huben, Ladenburg, Germany)

All triptychs are presented VIS left, Baader-U middle, Jupiter-U right:

Although this one has an overall 365nm main reflection, inside that flower is some long wave (around 385nm I'd say) UV reflection visible, that only the longer wave Baader-U filter is able to reveal.

Here details of that flower...

using the Baader-U filter:

and the Jupiter-U:

Overall this interesting plant looks like this (VIS, Baader-U, Jupiter-U)

Might it be that the unusual high UV reflection of its leafs aims at protecting it from too much UV radiation? Here how that looks like in closeup (VIS / UV):

Mother nature has quite good ideas!
